Welcome to Christmas Piano Lessons!

SAMPLE THE FULL JINGLE BELLS LESSON:
I just finished setting up a lesson on Jingle Bells here. It has beginning, intermediate and advanced versions in order to help the most people out.

ASK FOR HELP! CUSTOM LESSONS!
I’m not going to assume I know what your background with piano is. So if you are having trouble learning a part, let me know and I’ll post what I can to help you learn the song. This site is going to be based around getting personal help with your piano! Its a big undertaking, but I think its worth a try.

COURSE OUTLINE:
Over the month of December we will cover 15 Christmas songs total, with easy, intermediate and advanced lessons on all of them! There are 12 songs and extra technique lessons already posted for you to go through and ask questions about, but then we’ll vote on the 3 more songs to add. Then the last weeks will be focused on review and some bonus lessons!

Members of Christmas piano lessons will benefit from direct feedback with me and weekly updates based on their questions until Christmas.

Don’t get overwhelmed by the amount of material. Your goal should be to learn 1 or 2 of the songs here and just have fun!!

You don’t have to learn it all! Just think of it as having more choices on the songs you want to cover!

Happy Holidays!

Chris Marx

Thanks for watching, Please post your comments questions below, I'll do my best to answer them!

    Hi Chris,
I will practice the intermediate version of Jingle Bells
    for now ,
    however,
to me , it’s more than worth the effort to struggle with the jazz
    boogie version, specifically, to
copy those left hand chords and movements in the key of C,
they sound very pleasing. I will try to copy them and then take
them out of the context of the song…. this version is very smooth .

    FROM CHRIS:
    Thanks John,
If I can explain anything more thoroughly for you, let me know!
During the review weeks, I think we’ll focus a lot on analyzing things and figuring out the “WHY” do it this way.

That really helps you apply the tricks you pick up here to other songs!

Do you have the music for what you are playing in advanced on the site?

    FROM CHRIS:
    Hi TJ,
Sorry but I created that version of Jingle Bells from interpreting a fake book chart. I don’t have the exact version written note for note.

The fake book chart is on the site though, and from watching the videos and asking me questions, you’ll begin to understand how to interpret chord symbols and fake book charts yourself!

The commentary cleared up a lot of questions I had,

bouncing the melody notes between each hand

and making those cool sounding cords with note add on’s

still wonder about what fingers to play what note rules there

seems like it’s all over the place, then it seems like

one chord is used to set up the form of the next cord

sometimes close to each other sometimes spread out

played until my wrist went stiff.

got to 1/2 of the intermediate version

advanced seems like it is miles away

will have another go at it later today

I learned a lot but it took forever way more than 10 minutes

those jazz cords sound so cool

walking bass lines and bouncing melody notes

    good stuff ……

Chris Rocks! Always has, always will…….. I think.

Giving the notation for the baseline of the simple version of Jingle Bells was a start for the need of notation. However, that was so simple it was not really needed. What is needed is notation for the right hand of the intermediate and advanced parts. I know it is not easy to notate all of that but that is what is needed to not burden the user with endless stopping and starting of the video to “see” what you are playing.

Another alternative would be to painstakingly show us on the video, which exact keys you are playing throughout the piece. You have the makings of a very nice site here and if your intention is to convert it into a paying proposition I believe I would subscribe to your product but not until you have made it easier for the user to examine what you are playing.

    Good Luck

Thanks for the great feedback Don!
If you’re interested, I can make written versions of specific requests, but I probably can’t get it all done at once! Thats a lot of work. My plan is to update all the videos to this new format with the keys and notes written in, and then have slowed down versions of the performances as well.

Thanks for the call by the way!
